Description: Registered Nurse – Orthopedic Surgery (Travel Assignment)

Facility: Mission Hospital, Asheville, NC

Shift: 12-hour nights (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM, varies)

Assignment Duration: 13 weeks

Start Date: 06/16/2025

Guaranteed Hours: 36 per week

On-Call Requirement: Every other weekend

Unit Overview

• Beds: 32 individual patient rooms
• Staff: 50 total team members
• Day Shift Staffing: 1 Charge RN, 6 RNs, 1-2 LPNs, 3 PCTs, 1 HUC
• Night Shift Staffing: 1 Charge RN, 5 RNs, 1-2 LPNs, 2 PCTs, 1 HUC
• Patient Ratios:
• Day Shift: 5:1 (stretch to 6:1)
• Night Shift: 6:1 (stretch to 7:1)
• EMR System: Cerner

Position Overview

Mission Hospital is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) – Orthopedic Surgery for a 13-week travel assignment. This role involves providing specialized orthopedic nursing care and assisting patients in post-surgical recovery, pain management, and mobility support.

Responsibilities

• Perform dressing changes, suture/staple removal, Foley catheter management, NG tube care, and wound vac maintenance/removal.
• Administer medications and monitor post-operative recovery.
• Assist patients with mobility aids, including walkers, Sara lifts, and wheelchairs.
• Collaborate with surgeons, therapists, and nursing teams to optimize patient rehabilitation.
  
  

Required Certifications & Qualifications

• Active North Carolina RN License
• BLS Certification (Required)
• Minimum of 1 year of nursing experience
• Preferred: Hospital & orthopedic experience

Floating Requirements

• May be required to float to other Med-Surg units as needed

• RNs: Navy Scrubs
